Specifications for Honda Pacific Coast |
| The Honda Pacific
Coast is a very reliable and easy to maintain bike, almost zero
maintenance. All that smooth plastic it easy to take care of, hardly any
chrome to worry about. It takes less than 15 minutes for a complete wash
job. Underneath the plastic is a V-Twin 800 cc engine, water
cooled, with hydraulic lifters for valve adjustment, hydraulic
clutch and brakes. It is shaft driven, just grease the rear spines
during each tire change. And that rear end, it contains the
"trunk" Honda first started making the Pacific Coast in 1989, but do to lack of sales discontinued it in 1992 and 1993. It appears to have been one of Hondas best kept secretes. But after Honda stopped importing the PC, people started asking for them and the bike was reborn again in 1994. But the sales numbers was just not enough and 1998 was the last year Honda made it. The one I have is a 1996 model, purchased used in 1999 with 5,050 miles on it. There are plenty of owners with over 100,000 miles on their bikes, some with over 200,000 miles. There are bikes that are better for touring, some better for daily commuting, some that will excel for sport riding, but none better for all around use than a PC800. It is a excellent bike for touring, has good weather protection, good seating position, easy to commute with in city traffic, and none better for hauling your stuff around (remember the trunk).
